First Friday Gathering
Hello Artists,
For our first class (the first Friday of May), we will have a gathering here in class and then a field trip. We will be attending the "Freemont First Friday Art Walk" located in downtown Seattle.
Please, meet up in our classroom (Room 420) at Hibulb Culture Center & Natural History Preserve. We will start off with "Circle Up" where we will share something with one another, whether it be through story, song, dance, poetry, etc., and we will end with prayer before we leave. So be prepared, because everyone must share something at "Circle Up", even if it's just how you are feeling that day.
Also, I will be providing a hearty meal and refreshments before we leave for Seattle, so, come hungry. There will be healthy snacks and refreshments for the ride home as well.
Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, a raincoat/umbrella a smartphone/camera for taking photos and spending money (not mandatory).
Who: All students enrolled in Coast Salish Art 101 must attend. First Friday gatherings are mandatory.
What: Freemont First Friday Art Walk
Where: Meet in our classroom at HCC&NHP Room 420,
(transportation to Seattle will be provided, we will all ride together in the Tribal vans.)
When: 1pm-8pm
*Since this class will run much later than our normal classtime, please, make whatever arrangements necessary to attend.
Why: I want you to see all the various art styles that Coast Salish people create, because not all Coast Salish artists are "traditional" a lot of Coast Salish artists are doing very contemporary work. You will notice a lot of Northern style coastal art, but your goal is to make sure you find only works made by Coast Salish people.
You will be split up into groups of three and your group goal will be to find and take photographs of at least 6 works of art made by Coast Salish Artists, from at least 3 different Galleries or booths.
Your group assignment will be:
-Create a quick powerpoint using the photos of the 6 works of art your group has chose from First Friday Art Walk and present it to the class.
-Each slide much include artist name, date, title of piece, medium (materials used).
-Everyone in your group must present.
You will have one class period to work together on your presentations and the following class you will be presenting your powerpoint to the class and guest artists.
This is an Edublog for the Coast Salish Art 101- Summer Semester 2020, held by Ms.Toni Jo Gobin. Where we will learn about traditional and contemporary Coast Salish Art forms and create our own pieces... from Cedar Harvesting, Regalia making, Cedar Papermaking, Screen Printing and more. t'igwičid (thank you) for visiting my blog and tune in weekly for vital information pertaining to this course.
